Where were you born?
I was born in Toronto and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. My family moved to Brampton in 1975, way before it was all brown!
Now I live in Los Angeles.
Do you have any age restrictions at your shows?
THERE IS ADULT LANGUAGE AND SEXUAL CONTENT AT MY SHOWS - PARENTAL GUIDANCE IS ADVISED!
We don't restrict entrance to anyone. However, in some countries and at certain venues, they may have age restrictions.
We usually suggest 16 and older.
Is Russell Peters your real name?
Yes it is. My family and I are Anglo-Indian. Anglo-Indians are a community of Indians, from India who were mixed with the British when they occupied India. Both of my parents are Anglo-Indian and both of their parents were Anglo-Indians and so on. Anglo-Indians traditionally always married Anglo-Indians.
Anglo-Indians are Christian (I'm Catholic, as is my mom and my brother, my dad was Anglican), which also goes back generations. The first language for Anglo-Indians is English and our communities could primarily be found in Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.
This is the question that I get asked the most often and I'm always amazed as to how many Indians, especially the younger ones, don't have a clue about our history. Go ahead and GOOGLE 'Anglo-Indian' and check yourself!
Will you give a special shout-out to my boyfriend / girlfriend / uncle / aunty / mom / dad / german shepherd?
Sorry, I just can't. I'm on-stage for at least one hour, with no notes and or script. Some nights I don't even know what material I'm going to do. It's almost impossible for me to do this or to remember to do this. However, sometimes my management will arrange for certain people to come backstage after the show to say hello.
How come you didn't say anything about my community?
Hmmm... This is definitely an FAQ. I try my best to talk about everyone who's in the audience, but the thing is, I'll only talk about people and cultures that I know about. I won't just say something for the sake of saying it. I'm always paying attention to the fans and learning new things about them and their communities. Give me time, I'll have something for you. By the way, sometimes I forget too! At my recent LA show, I completely forgot to talk about Latinos! I realized it as soon as I got off stage and it was too late.
Will you be performing new material?
I'm always working on new stuff. I know that sometimes people expect a new show every time they come to see me, but that's just impossible.
Just so everyone knows, I don't do the same act that's on the internet. The Comedy Now special that was uploaded on the web was recorded in August 2003 and then broadcast in February 2004. I have a whole new act since then.
I don't even perform the stuff I did in OUTSOURCED.
Do you like Bollywood movies and music?
No. I can't stand it. I grew up in North America and those corny movies don't mean anything to me. In fact they're awful. Same thing goes for the music.
What type of music do you like?
I'm a hip hop junkie - I'm talking about real hip hop, not that crap that they play on the radio these days. My favourite artist of all time is Biggie.
Will you perform at my birthday / wedding / party / bar mitzvah / corporate eventf?
Nope. I don't do private shows any more. I get these enquiries every day and we (my management and I) have decided that we turn all of them down - globally.I don't like doing them and they're never good shows. I'm also crazy busy. Between my live dates and tv and film projects, I just don't have time.
Are you on Facebook?
YES - yes, I am. There were too many people claiming to be me and trying to sell tickets and mislead my fans, so I decided that it was time to get on-board. http://www.facebook.com/RussellPeters
